Bruce Springsteen Says Lana Del Rey Is “One Of The Best Songwriters” In America

Bruce Springsteen has shouted out Lana Del Rey, calling her “one of the best songwriters” in America.

The Boss’ words of praise came on the most recent episode of his SiriusXM radio show, From His Home to Yours, during which he  played Del Rey’s 2012 Paradise cut ‘American’.

“She is from New York, and was raised in Lake Placid. Lake Placid, a fabulous little American town where I have spent many a lovely summer evening with my children and my family over the years,” said Springsteen of Del Rey.

“And Lana is simply one of the best songwriters in the country, as we speak. She just creates a world of her own and invites you in. So a big favourite of mine, the lovely Lana Del Rey.”

‘American’, as it happens, references Springsteen himself, with Del Rey singing, “Springsteen is the king, don’t you think / I was like, hell yeah, that guy can sing.”

The Boss jokingly referenced the namedrop during the program, saying, “She’s, uh, name checking some guy from New Jersey in there. I’m not sure who.”

It’s not the first time Bruce has played LDR on the show, having previously played ‘Video Games’ back in July. “This is a singer and song that reminds me of the hot, humid, and sultry summer nights and the girls that went with them,” Springsteen introduced the track.

After releasing her critically-acclaimed Norman Fucking Rockwell last year, Del Rey returned with spoken word album Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass earlier this year. Her seventh studio album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, is set to arrive next month on September 25.
