Hold Yr Horses: It’s Been 30 Years Since Daryl Braithwaite Gave Every Pub Band Their Closing Song

A historic day in this nation’s music history is upon us, as it has officially been 30 years since Daryl Braithwaite cemented himself in pub culture with his rendition of ‘The Horses’.

Yep, on Wednesday, 28th January 1991, Braithwaite stood on the beach and told us all that he’ll be there to pick us up (pick us up!) and the song hasn’t lost steam since. It lived in the sets of pub bands and then became a meme almost as soon as memes were a thing. It truly has been a journey – and it’s not even his original song. Fantastic.

Taking to social media to celebrate the anniversary, Braithwaite revealed that he’s releasing a new line of merch to mark the special occasion.

Let it be known that isn’t a regular merch drop – there’s even the chance to cop a deadset, ‘The Horses’-themed surfboard for just under a grand. 2021 is truly insane.

Braithwaite is set to perform his second show as part of the Sounds Better Together concert series in Victoria, which means that belt out of ‘The Horses’ is going to be a special one indeed.
