Death Grips have bailed on their Lollapalooza 2013 commitments over the weekend, with festival organisers saying the group simply “chose not to arrive in Chicago”. They also cancelled a scheduled Lolla after party, leaving super pissed-off fans with little option but to fuck shit up in their own way.
Fed up with patiently waiting at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge venue, fans eventually jumped the stage and began trashing the band’s gear when it became apparent that they ain’t coming. It’s been reported that among the trashed objects was a drum kit that may well be band member Zach Hill’s. Many of those in attendance were avid users of Twitter and Reddit, so the carnage is fairly well documented.
It’s also been reported that an image of a suicide note from a fan to the band was left projected onto the stage. One crowd member was good enough to transcribe the letter, which you can read below.
To make matters worse, in the days since Death Grips have done a sweeping cancellation of their gigs later in the week, including their performance at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival and shows throughout New York and Boston. Mind you, maybe they’re just looking for a replacement kit.
Fans were offered refunds by the after party venue but it’s probably not worth the fact they had to read a suicide note for hours. You can check out the reaction to the no-show announcement below.

“SUBJECT: ready DATE: July 9
I am ready to take my own life. Many bad experiences led me to this dark void that I am locked in. Maybe by my own hands? I don’t really care anymore. I just wanted to say thank you for showing me the other side. the side that is locked away deep inside a person. I am mad. Mad all the time and depressed all the time. I can’t take it. I’m not afraid of dying but i am afraid that I can’t hear DG in the after life if there is such a thing. I don’t know, but I hope your music transcends to the unknown.
