Preview & trailer: Growing Change

A few companies control the global food system. A few billion people are hungry for change.

Don’t be fooled: the Australian film industry is not dead. It’s alive and kicking and screaming, it just needs bigger audiences.

Emerging Sydney-based filmmaker has cracked it big time and is premiering his debut documentary, Growing Change at Palace Cinemas later this month as part of the Sydney Latin American Film Festival. What a guy!

The doco’s main concern? That food production is dominated by a handful of wealthy companies which produce more than enough food for the world, yet millions remain hungry due to inequitable distribution. Simon aims to answer the question, “How will the world feed itself in the future” by going on a journey to Venezuela to see how they’re redesigning an agriculture system that works for its people and the environment.

“Growing Change is a doco that looks at one of the most exciting experiments in the world to grow a fair and sustainable food system,” says Simon. “In Venezuela, from fishing villages to cocoa plantations to urban gardens, a growing social movement is showing what’s possible when communities, not corporations, start to take control of food.”

The doco features interviews with filthy lefty Raj Patel (author of ‘Stuffed and Starved’ and ‘The Value of Nothing’), and possibly even more excitingly, that furry ABC gardening dude and urban permaculture guru, Costa Georgiadis.
