Now with two solid seasons under it’s belt, the TV adaptation of George R R Martin Game Of Throne series has attracted a cult like following. It has found considerable support amongst Australians who have been crowned the pirate kings of the show, having illegally downloaded more episodes than any other country. Though as amazing, epic and compelling as it may be, it has copped the slings and arrows of outrageous success, rubbing many groups in the wrong way.
Though recently making headlines for the use of a George Bush prosthetic head on a spike, the main crux of its oppositions argument is the portrayal of different genders, the use of sex as a backdrop and excessive nudity. While the show’s original intent was to vividly portray the life of both men and women in a feudal society, it has been argued that the excessive use of nudity has underpinned that concept.
Of the countless boobs, bums, prostitutes, how many have been explored from the females perspective? The haters have commented. Pointing out characters such as Roz who has had very little chance to build her character other than countless sex scenes, why is she in Kings Landing anyway?
But the Huffington Post has done us all a favour, compiling a 16 minute clip containing every nip slip and sex scene. And considering It has been 20 episodes each running for an hour, 16 minutes in total shows that the program really isn’t the sex romp critics have been making it out to be. But rather a highly realistic demonstration of well, life! It’s not as pretty or as wholesome as the conservatives want it to be, it never has been and it never will be.
