PREMIERE: Birdhouse May, Or May Not, Have Something To Tell You With Their New EP

Melbourne quartet Birdhouse take you on an experimental trip with their brand new EP I’ve Got Something to Tell You, through a plethora of styles and genres, but the one thing they never forget is the fun.

From the sun-soaked opener ‘Sweet’, the punk energy of impassioned follow-up ‘Traveller’, the romantic, rockabilly swing of ‘All My Life’ to the eight-minute long epic closer ‘The Garden’, the entire EP, premiering here today, showcases just how good the Melbourne outfit are at pushing genre boundaries, while still maintaining a sonic identity.

“We’ve pushed ourselves more with this EP, vocalist Danny Smith tells Music Feeds. “The four songs included are pretty varied and ambitious, whereas our first EP and earlier songs perhaps fit more neatly into an indie-punk/rock category. We’ve tried to be bold and experimental and not just stick to what we know and know we love. These four songs, as a result, move from warm wall-of-soundesque choruses to unsettling outros to a chaotic punker that makes us all want to learn to skate, or at least play a skate video game.”

“We had a fairly well-defined idea of how we wanted the music to be presented,” continues drummer Jamie O’Sullivan. “Frequent gigging has given us a good idea of how audiences respond to our songs. However, by using the studio to its full potential, we were able to exceed expectations and be left with an end-product we are proud of.”

“In this EP, I hoped we’d find we have something to tell you, but it turns out we don’t,” adds a somewhat contrarian Smith. “So, do not listen to this EP under any circumstances.”

At the risk of ignoring Smith’s advice, we suggest you see what Birdhouse has to say by heading to one of the shows on their upcoming tour across Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland from now to early August.
