Tyler Touché: Track-By-Track On ‘Technicolor Symphony’ EP

Brissie wunderkind Tyler Touché has been rapidly gaining attention around the nation, dropping uplifting nu disco hits and joining Nina Las Vegas on the bill for the triple j House Party tour. Now the 17-year-old hype machine has just released his latest EP, Technicolor Symphony, and the dude himself was nice enough to give us a a track by track rundown, as well as streaming the full thing online for your listening pleasure.

Heart In Motion

“This track was really a work in progress over a few months. It was really a mix of the funky Fred Falke-esque bass lines that were flowing around in my head, ’70s disco string stabs and Nile Rodgers style guitar chops. It went through quite a few versions, before I got a mutual friend Rachael Hinton-Smith to sing vocals on it. It was great to hear vocals over my tracks for the first time here.”

Baguette

“My attempt at making a nu disco track that has a French house feel, and the electro choppiness of an electro house track. I drew a lot inspiration from Madeon for the production and arrangement of the track. Fun fact: My mother sings the ‘baguette’ sample before the chorus.”

Technicolor Symphony (feat. Sterling Silver)

“I’m really proud of how this track turned out from a musical perspective. It’s a pop song really. I kept it simple and didn’t add too much clutter that would have detracted from the song and the vocal performance. The vocals that Sterling Silver added to the track just made it that much better. He’s a very talented lyricist and songwriter, and totally nailed the vocals that I had in mind for the track. It was a natural collaboration I think.”

Sun (fest. Grosek)

“I started this one quite differently to most of my other tracks. I worked hard on creating a drum part with intricate percussion that was subtle but groovy, and locked in with the bass line. I played a fair bit of guitar on the track, cutting up and resampling myself. Grosek also added an extra element to the track, providing a solid vocal part and lyrics.”
