Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has hinted that artists affected by EMI and Universal’s merger could withhold their new albums in protest of being left out of negotiations during the sale.
EMI Music Australia and Future Entertainment have come together to create a new label named Future Music. The industry heavyweights have launched the self-described ‘exclusive’ label with the intention of signing international and local talent, issuing special ticket offerings for associated events and releasing various compilations, along with many other aspirations. EMI have joined the onslaught of record labels demanding royalties from online music website Grooveshark. EMI have filed the lawsuit stating that EMG, Groovesharks parent company has “made not a single royalty payment to EMI, nor provided a single accounting statement.” The Grooveshark have been in hot water since Universal Music Group lodged a lawsuit
Major Record label EMI has been offered for sale by current owners Citibank who have run the company for most of the year.
