10 Music News Stories That Made Us Say “WTF?” In 2016

6. 82-Year-Old Man Slays Drowning Pool’s ‘Bodies’ On ‘America’s Got Talent’

There are few things more brutal than old age, which is why witnessing 82-year-old John Hetlinger screech Drowning Pool’s metal classic ‘Bodies’ is pretty much the most brutal thing you will ever see. This grandpappy may wear his pants way up high, but he wasn’t afraid to get down with the Texan rifflords’ savage fightclub banger, which he performed on America’s Got Talent to horrifying success. Needless to say, judge Simon Cowell probably should have borrowed one of the geriatric hardkent’s adult diapers before the audition kicked off.

7. Beyoncé Gets Nominated Against Disturbed For The ‘Best Rock’ Grammy

This one’s just plain ridic. C’mon… Beyonce is rock now? Really, Grammys? Kween B was already nominated in the best urban, rap, and pop categories, but the music awards night’s puppet masters had to make it a clean sweep, qualifying her to run in the ‘Best Rock Performance’ category against metal juggernauts Disturbed as well. Yep. Sick one, Grammys.

8. Steve Aoki’s Bizarre Live Collab With Blink-182

Look, granted, the concept of a live collab between pop punk greats Blink-182 and Asian-American deep house master Steve Aoki is a bit odd in principle, but “Hmmmm,” we thought to ourselves as the story came across our proverbial desks back in October, “This could just be crazy enough to work!”

Long story short: No. No it wasn’t.

9. Rolf Harris’s Prison Toilet Roll Didgeridoos

Reaching peak levels of WHAT THE FUCKery was this tale of convicted sex pest and Aussie entertainment veteran Rolf Harris crafting numerous didgeridoos out of toilet rolls from his prison cell and blasting tunes on them, to the profound annoyance of all the guards on patrol. In fact, it seems the 86-year-old inmate has been on a DIY didge-making spree since his 2014 incarceration, with reports that he’s been refusing to stop McGivering up didgeridoos out of pretty much anything he can find, despite the makeshift instruments being continuously confiscated by prison guards.

If “WTF” had a face, it would surely be the bespectacled whiskery mug of geriatric criminal and serial kook, Rolf Harris.

10. Jack Black’s Bonkers Shenanigans On This South Korean Gameshow

King of WTF, Jack Black, certainly delivered in 2016. Not only in the sense that we all thought he’d died courtesy of a sick Twitter-hacking troll, but prior to his hoax demise the Tenacious D duderino fronted up on a South Korean gameshow called Infinite Challenge for some reason and took part in a bunch of bizarre physical challenges, including marshmallow mouth-stuffing, blind K-pop karaoke, electrified lie detection and — uh — pulling a stocking over his face.

Well, ya know how it goes…
