A Splendour Punter Let Off A Flare During Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya!’

Among the lengthy list of items that are (sensibly) not permitted in the festival area at Splendour In The Grass are flares. In fact, flares are also banned from the camping ground area. Might have something to do with their tendency to injure people, like one young punter at Soundwave 2013.

However, despite the incident at Soundwave, which left a Bring Me The Horizon fan with a gash in her shoulder that required stitches, and an incident at Falls Festival that almost saw Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio taking a flare to the head, someone still snuck one into Splendour.

“Some lads near us had a flare for Outkast, here’s what it looked like from up close,” reads the caption attached to a YouTube clip of someone lighting a flare during Outkast‘s performance of their 2003 smash Hey Ya! – as if you needed anything to improve that unforgettable festival highlight?

Luckily, no one in this instance seemed to have been injured, but the flare-wielder in the clip may want to watch their back. After footage surfaced of the Soundwave 2013 punter responsible for lighting the flare that injured the girl, organisers stated that they’d passed the video onto police.
