Amy Shark & Genesis Owusu Top List Of 2021 ARIA Award Nominees

The 2021 ARIA Award nominations are in, with Amy Shark and Genesis Owusu dominating with six nods apiece.

Sharkie is up for Album of the Year for her ARIA #1 LP Cry Forever, as well as Best Pop Release, Song of the Year for her Keith Urban-featuring single Love Songs Ain’t For Us and the new gender-neutral award of Best Artist.

Owusu is going head to head with Shark for both Best Artist and Album Of The Year (for his debut LP Smiling With No Teeth), as well as being nominated in the Best Independent Release, Best Hip Hop Release and Best Cover Art categories.

Teenage R&B breakout star Budjerah has also racked up some serious noms, getting shortlisted in five categories including Best Artist, Best Soul/R&B Release and the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award.

Also scooping five nods apiece were rock legends Midnight Oil and First Nations Collaborators, Australian rapper Masked Wolf, The Avalanches, Tones And I and Vance Joy, while Ngaiire and The Kid LAROI snagged four.

Five artists are vying for Best Rock Album, including AC/DC, Ball Park Music, Holy Holy, Middle Kids and Midnight Oil and First Nations Collaborators.

While in the best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal category we have Alpha Wolf, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Tropical F**k Storm, Yours Truly and A. Swayze & the Ghosts going toe to toe.

The nominees were announced live on YouTube in a special event this morning, hosted by Channel Nine’s Brooke Boney.

It’s an appetiser for the big night of nights itself, which is still to come on Wednesday, 24th November and will take place as an “innovative digital show” with a stack of live music and special guest presenters, also streamed live on YouTube.

Until then, you can check out the full list of 2021 ARIA Award nominees below!
