Are These The 50 Best Australian Albums Of The ’90s?

Double J is going back to the ’90s this month, so to celebrate, triple j‘s more mature sibling has put together its list of the 50 Best Australian Albums Of The ’90s, which is sure to be contentious.

At number one is Powderfinger’s 1998 classic Internationalist — which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary with a huge rerelease — followed by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ Let Love In and The Living End’s 1998 self-titled debut.

The rest of the top 10 includes records from Regurgitator, You Am I, Crowded House, Silverchair, Grinspoon, Spiderbait and The Clouds.

In total, Silverchair, You Am I, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds and Crowded House all have two albums in the top 50, which you can view in full down below.

“We had some help, of course,” says Double J Music Editor Dan Condon, explaining that listeners let the station know which albums they felt strongest about.

“We made those responses a key part of our decision-making process,” he says. “It didn’t exactly make it easier, but we’re hoping it has made it better.”

Double J will be counting down its 50 Best Australian Albums Of The ’90s from 12pm AEST this Saturday, 15th September, with a selection of songs from the records on its list.
