Ásgeir Adds Second Sydney Falls Festival Sideshow

Icelandic singer and songwriter Ásgeir is set to return to Australia in a few months for Field Day and the upcoming Falls and Southbound festivals as well as his own 2015 solo sideshows and, after already selling out the first one, the 22-year-old has now announced a second Sydney solo show.

Due to overwhelming demand Ásgeir’s previously announced 9pm Sydney Opera House performance on Wednesday 7th January, 2015 has completely sold out and so he will perform a second and final Concert Hall show earlier that evening at 6.30pm. As previously announced he will then take the stage at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on Friday, 9th January 2015.

Accompanied by his family-featuring four-piece band, Ásgeir will showcase the lush sounds of his debut album In The Silence, which he recorded in both Icelandic and English. “Sydney’s response to Ásgeir has been phenomenal and we’re thrilled to be able to announce a second performance by this gifted young artist,” said Ben Marshall, Head of Contemporary Music at Sydney Opera House.

“Catch him on the cusp of lift off this summer – you’ll be hearing a lot more of his name.” Australia has in fact heard quite a bit of Ásgeir’s name recently as he was in the country earlier this year as part of the Splendour in the Grass lineup.

He celebrated that trip both with a visit to a Sydney Zoo, of which we have photographic evidence, and also stopped by triple j for Like A Version, to perform a down-tempo cover of Stolen Dance, the hit song from German duo, and fellow Falls festival artists, Milky Chance.
