International publication Pollstar has unveiled the nominees for their annual Concert Industry Awards, with three Australian promoters, a local festival and one live act amongst those up for a prestigious award.
The nominees for the 26th Annual Pollstar Awards were selected by an anonymous collection of 216 promoters, agents, managers and other touring professionals, with the only requirement being that they could not nominate themselves or their clients.
The awards honour artists, management, talent buyers, venues, support services and more for their professionalism, achievements and abilities within the international concert industry.
Following a year of international stadium concerts, Sydney pop-punk four-piece 5 Seconds Of Summer have been nominated for Best New Touring Artist, battling it out against Lorde, Sam Smith, Bastille, Hozier, Brantley Gilbert and Kacey Musgraves for the award.
Three Australian promoters, responsible for some of the year’s biggest tours, have been recognised amongst this year’s nominees for International Promoter of the Year. They are Michael Chugg of Chugg Entertainment, Michael Coppel of Live Nation Australasia and Michael Harrison of Frontier Touring.
For a third consecutive year, beloved Australian festival Byron Bay’s Bluesfest is up for International Music Festival Of The Year. Bluesfest are up against the UK’s massive Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals, Spain’s Primavera Sound, Belgium’s Rock Werchter and Tomorrowland as well as Brazil’s Lollapalooza and Switzerland’s Paléo Festival Nyon.
“There are so many amazing festivals all over the world these days, and to be nominated once was great, twice was amazing and now three times in consecutive years! We are both honoured and humbled by this announcement” said festival director Peter Noble.
“In the 12 years this award has been running, we have now been nominated 5 times – no other Australian Festival has achieved this – and only a handful of festivals globally have been so honoured!! ”
The awards are held on February 21st in Nashville, where this year’s nominating committee will also be revealed. Head to the Pollstar website to see all the nominees.
