Avril Lavigne‘s first move since joining TikTok has been to seemingly put to rest a mystery that has had the world scratching its collective noggin for decades: who is the titular Sk8er Boi from her breakout 2002 hit of the same name?
He was a boy. She was a girl.
This we know.
But now, some twenty years later, Avril has decided to make it a little more obvious.
The singer has strongly hinted that the skateboarding, guitar-slammin’ protagonist at the centre of her seminal pop-punk revenge anthem is none other than the the world’s most famous pro skater himself, Tony Hawk.
In her maiden outing on TikTok, Avril posted a clip of herself lip-syncing to ‘Sk8er Boi’… and just as the camera zooms in on her iconic necktie, it suddenly zooms out again to reveal The Birdman himself, causing fans to speculate that perhaps Hawke has been the song’s inspiration all along.
