Beck Releases New Song ‘Defriended’, Unveils Plans For Two New Albums

Beck is most definitely back – not only is the singer-songwriter reportedly about to drop 2 brand-new albums, one an acoustic stand-alone work and the second a recorded follow-up to 2008’s Modern Guilt, plus he’s just had a new song, Defriended, find its way onto the Internet.

Defriended turned up online a few days ago, so the multi-instrumentalist released an official version of the dreamy, big beat, electronic number, which indicates good things to come. A source told Rolling Stone that the track won’t appear either of the 2 new albums, both of which will be released independently after Beck’s split from Universal Music.

The previously-announced acoustic album is being described as “a small-bore, self-contained work along the lines of 1994’s One Foot in the Grave“. Fans can expect a single to be released ahead of both albums, which we should see by spring.

Beck has a whole string of tour dates coming up in ye olde northern hemisphere, including acoustic shows with Wilco and Bob Dylan and the first-ever live performance of his sheet-music release Song Reader but the news of new albums plant the 42-year-old firmly on our list of contenders for the next Australian summer festival season.
