Nickelback and their frontman Chad Kroger seem to perpetually end up as the butt of an endless stream of jokes in the music industry, but they’ve found themselves a new and perhaps unexpected ally in Billy Corgan.
Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Corgan joined two hour talk show The Joe Rogan Experience recently to chat about his new solo album Ogilala and other things, but took the time out to defend Kroeger and his band.
Corgan calls Koreger “an incredible songwriter” and defends Nickelback for their specific and divisive style of pop rock.
“I don’t know enough about their world, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong if that’s who you want to be,” says Corgan.
“Pop is predicated on satisfying. I’ve said many times pop is porn. It’s porn, they want to get you off. It’s just how they’re going to get you off. I’m not that concerned with getting you off. I’m just not.”
