Brisbane’s Left Cassette Unleash Brit-Rock Anthem ‘Always Kinda Late’

Meanjin/Brisbane band Left Cassette have just shared an infectious new single dubbed ‘Always Kinda Late’. Produced by Johnathan Frowd, the single smashes together elements of Brit-pop and indie-rock into a upbeat heartbreak anthem.

“I wrote it about an ex-partner,” explains frontman Josh Aldred. “We were both from the UK and while visiting family back home, our holiday ended in a way I didn’t expect. She decided to stay in the UK longer, and that was the moment we knew we were better off going our separate ways.”

He continues: “It wasn’t an easy thing to process in the moment, the song came together months later when I was in a better headspace. The line, ‘If you gone, promise you’ll remember me,’ really sums up that feeling of wanting to leave a lasting mark, even when things don’t work out.”

Left Cassette are still quite new on the scene. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Catfish & The Bottleman, The Wombats and Bloc Party, the foursome burst into our eardrums in 2024 with their debut single ‘Two Left Shoes’ and have been making a name for themselves on the live circuit, including selling out their 2024 headliner at Melbourne’s Tomcat venue.
