Cat Power has released two singles from her forthcoming album Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert. The singer – real name Chan Marshall – has unveiled her covers of Bob Dylan classics ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ and ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, recorded at the Albert Hall in London in November 2022.
Marshall has been touring the show for a while – she played the Sydney Opera House for Vivid LIVE earlier this year – which involves her recreating, song-for-song, the setlist of Dylan’s famous 1966 concert at the Manchester Free Trade Hall (the concert became known as the Royal Albert Hall concert due to a mislabelled bootleg).

The concert is infamous in Dylan history as it involved him switching from acoustic to electric halfway through the show, like he did at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.
“More than the work of any other songwriter, Dylan’s songs have spoken to me, and inspired me since I first began hearing them at 5 years old,” Marshall explained in a statement.
“I had and still have such respect for the man who crafted so many songs that helped develop conscious thinking in millions of people, helped shape the way they see the world,” Marshall continued. “So even though my hands were shaking so much I had to keep them in my pockets [during the November 2022 performance] I felt real dignity for myself. It felt like a real honor for me to stand there.”
