Following AJ Maddah‘s January proclamation that “there will be zero festivals going to WA in 2015,” Perth-based collectives Metric and ICSSC have decided form an underground resistance, announcing the first lineup for Circo II, featuring Kele, Violent Soho, DMA’s, and more.
After a wildly successful inaugural year in 2013, which saw 1,000 Circo tickets move within the first hour of hitting sale, the second edition of Circo Festival is set to descend upon the Claremont Showground Pavilions this Saturday, 28th June to turn it into the “ultimate party destination.”
Organisers hope to make Circo II a boutique event that offers a respite from the current crop of overpriced and overcrowded festivals peddling stale acts to less-than-discerning audiences. Circo II will look to provide an intimate and rewarding concert experience that bridges the crowd-artist gap.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the amazing response we received for Circo Festival last year,” said director Alex Paioff. “It truly was the festival that made the East Coast of Australia want to come West, when for years its been the inverse… Circo II will deliver a truly epic, breathtaking night of musical and cultural richness that will traverse the spectrum from the gritty to the surreal.”
Among the musical and cultural richness on offer will be Queensland distortion peddlers Violent Soho, Bloc Party frontman Kele, the inimitable Nina Las Vegas, the glitch-funk vibes of Touch Sensitive, the singular rap stylings of Mykki Blanco, the grooves of Seattle duo Odesza, and more.
Tickets are priced at a highly reasonable $89 for the first release, with $99 for second release tickets, and $109 for the third and final release. More acts will be announced, but readers can checkout the current Circo roster below, as well as all dates and details for Circo Festival II.
