City And Colour Australian Tour Plans Shaky After Big Day Out 2014 Rejection

Big Day Out has put the kibosh on City And Colour’s plans to tour Australia as part of the festival in 2014, leaving previously announced intentions to tour new album The Hurry And The Harm early next year up in the air.

Speaking with triple j’s Tom and Alex, City And Colour main man Dallas Green said BDO rejected the band’s offer to be a part of the national touring juggernaut next year:

“It turns out that the people doing Big Day Out didn’t end up wanting City And Colour to be on it.”

Green went to say that he was “fine” with Big Day Out’s decision to pass on City And Colour and noted that the band “prefer to do our own tour anyway”. For those who might be miffed by BDO’s treatment of City And Colour, Green suggested that fans could “riot about it” should they so desire.

City And Colour had earlier announced their intention to return to Australia early next year to tour behind their soon-to-be released new album The Hurry And The Harm, with Green telling Australian fans that “I would hope to say that it would be the first month of the new year, because I have a whole bunch of touring booked already for the rest of this year.” Whether those plans were dependent on being part of the Big Day Out festival are unclear, but a slot on the Big Day Out would no doubt have assisted them in getting across the Pacific. It looks like we could now be waiting a good long while for a tour.

So far from The Hurry And The Harm we’ve heard new tracks Of Space And Time and Thirst with the LP due to drop locally this Friday, 31st May.
