Coheed And Cambria To Release Double Album

Prog Metallers Coheed & Cambria have announced today that they will be releasing a double album, with the already announced The Afterman: Ascension now to be followed up with a secondary album, The Afterman: Descension.

Fans can once again expect another epic concept release for the band, who plan on setting their new stories in their Heaven’s Fence universe, and will be another chapter in the The Amory Wars series. It will however, be the first Coheed release to feature new bassist Zach Cooper, not to mention the long-awaited return of drummer Josh Eppard. The band entered the studio with production team Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner.

The news came after the band launched an official album trailer, which you can check out below. The forbidding, dark, high quality theatrical clip perfectly captures the essence of Coheed, but to fully understand just what awaits us, we will need to wait for the release. The dates for the double release pop up towards the end and viewers can also bounce quickly to tour dates. While none for Australia were announced, you do get the option to ‘Ask Coheed & Cambria A Question’, so if they get back to me on the Aus dates, I’ll let you know.

Of the album, frontman Claudio Sanchez has told NME: “This is without a doubt the most honest record I’ve ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In the past, I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within ‘The Amory Wars’ arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.”

Coheed plan on developing The Amory Wars franchise even further and are now in cahoots with ultimate human Mark Wahlberg, who will be bringing the action comic book series to the big screen.
