Listen to Courtney Barnett’s New Song ‘Before You Gotta Go’

Courtney Barnett has shared a new single, the second to be lifted from forthcoming album Things Take Time, Take Time ahead of its arrival in November.

The reflective ‘Before You Gotta Go’ is a bittersweet farewell. Even at its most tender moments of hurt, there’s a lot of love running throughout. “If something were to happen my dear / I wouldn’t want the last words you hear to be unkind,” Barnett sings on its refrain amid a warm backdrop of guitars and a light, airy drone.

Her third studio album, Barnett announced Things Take Time, Take Time last month alongside lead single ‘Rae Street’. The record was written over a two-year period with producer and drummer Stella Mozgawa, of Warpaint. Set to arrive Friday, 12th November via Milk! and Remote Control, Things Take Time, Take Time will follow on from Barnett’s 2018 LP Tell Me How You Really Feel.

Since then, she’s released live album MTV Unplugged (Live in Melbourne) at the tail end of 2019, and last year performed a livestream concert event called From Where I’m Standing, live from Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building. She also contributed a cover of Kev Carmody‘s ‘Just for You’ for a reissue of Carmody tribute album Cannot Buy My Soul, and teamed up with Vagabon for renditions of Tim Hardin’s ‘Reason to Believe’ and Sharon Van Etten‘s ‘Don’t Do It’.
