Cut Copy Have Made And Released An Ambient Project In The Middle Of Making Their New Album

Melbourne band Cut Copy are working on their fifth album but they have dropped something in the meantime and it’s slightly unexpected.

They have unveiled an ambient project January Tape which has only been released on cassette.

Earlier this year the group took a break from working on the follow-up to 2013’s Free Your Mind and came out of it with January Tape.

“Instead of retreating to the wilderness or decompressing on a beach somewhere, we spent ten days in the studio making a collection of ambient instrumental works,” frontman Dan Whitford said of the band’s break.

“We wanted to share outtakes from these sessions in all their unedited glory with you, and put them out as an extremely limited edition cassette.”

The cassette is on sale right now but if you stopped listening to cassette well before the turn of the millennium you can preview it here.

Alternatively, you can pick it up at their web store for $10 and it features 44 minutes of music.

Presumably they’re back to work on the album now although there’s no word on when to expect new music.
