Deafheaven, Kim Gordon And More Announced For Dark Mofo 2022

Hobart’s premier celebration of doom and gloom, Dark Mofo, have announced their first lineup drop for their 2022 edition in June, with this year’s goth Christmas set to host exclusive performances from black metal shoegazers Deafheaven, former Sonic Youth bassist and vocalist Kim Gordon and noise artist Lingua Ignota.

Elsewhere on the bill are Spiritualized and Nils Frahm, both of whom were also announced yesterday as part of this year’s VIVID Live lineup in Sydney. Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle will also perform as part of a larger Australian tour.

The full lineup for this year’s Dark Mofo – which will run Thursday, 9th to Wednesday, 22nd June – is set to be released next month. See the currently-announced program and sign up for pre-sale access here.

Dark Mofo returns after the 2020 iteration was cancelled due to the pandemic. The 2021 edition hosted another former Sonic Youth member, Thurston Moore, along with the likes of OmConfidence Man, King Stingray, Grace Cummings and more.

The festival also attracted backlash last year around its controversial Union Flag artwork by Spanish artist Santiago Sierra, which would have theoretically involved First Nations people providing their blood to see the Union Jack “immersed in the blood of its colonised territories.” The project was eventually cancelled, with Dark Mofo organisers issuing an apology.
