Doja Cat Releases ‘Vegas’ From Soundtrack To Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’

Doja Cat’s new single, ‘Vegas’, will appear on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis. ‘Vegas’ is streaming now.

‘Vegas’ is a Doja Cat original, written by the artist with producers Rogét Chahayed and Yeti Beats. ‘Vegas’ samples Big Mama Thornton’s ‘Hound Dog’, a song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and famously covered by Presley. Aside from the sample, however, Doja Cat makes no attempt to bow to rock’n’roll history – ‘Vegas’ is a distinctly contemporary hip hop song that has a score to settle with a lousy lover.

Elvis, Luhrmann’s first feature film since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, is scheduled to begin showing in theatres on Thursday, 23rd June. Elvis stars Austin Butler in the title role. Butler previously appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time In Hollywood as Manson Family member, Tex Martin. Tom Hanks co-stars as Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Presley’s widow, Priscilla Presley, recently attended a private screening of Elvis. Afterwards, Presley described it as “a true story told brilliantly and creatively that only Baz, in his unique artistic way, could have delivered.” Later, Presley reported that her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, also loved the film. “It took me a few days to overcome the emotions as it did with Lisa,” Presley wrote. “Beautifully done Baz, Tom, Austin and Olivia.”
