Dua Lipa has hit out at veteran Australian entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, after he suggested she lied about why she cancelled a number of performances in support of Bruno Mars’ latest Australian tour.
Lipa pulled out of support sets in Brisbane and Sydney last week to undergo urgent dental surgery on her wisdom teeth.
However, after footage of the singer performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live was broadcast earlier this week, Wilkins, appearing on Channel 9’s Today morning show, questioned Lipa’s story, having clearly misunderstood the situation.
“Now get this, she was supposed to be here in Australia opening up for Bruno Mars on his ’24K World Tour’, but Dua Lipa cancelled her appearances last weekend, as a result of having to have immediate surgery to have her wisdom teeth removed,” he said.
“But get this, here she is last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Wilkins reportedly said he was “told that [performance] was live to air”, but Lipa later took to Twitter to tell him it wasn’t, and included a photo of her swollen jaw as proof.
“Lol Richard Wilkins if you were a good journalist you would’ve done proper research instead of talking out of your ass,” she wrote.
“Jimmy Kimmel was shot in Feb in La and aired yesterday. I’ve been in Australia on bed rest and wouldn’tve cancelled my Bruno shows if I didn’t have to.”
Wilkins later apologised for the confusion, saying, “Sincere apologies Dua Lipa. Didn’t mean to misinform. Assumed you were live with Jimmy K. your fans and my son have severely castigated me!”
