DZ Deathrays Reveal ‘Black Rat’ Album Details, Drop New Single

Brisbane thrash-pop duo DZ Deathrays have unveiled new details about their forthcoming record Black Rat, including its cover art, a May 2nd release date and have dropped the impending album’s latest single, Gina Works at Hearts.

Boasting a killer riff over thumping drums, Gina Works at Hearts is the second track taken from the Brisbane duo’s follow-up to their 2012 ARAIA award-winning debut Bloodstreams. The thrashing guitars and post-hardcore-influenced vocals sits closer in sound to Bloodtreams than previous stripped back and psychedelic single Northern Lights. That track saw the duo jump in the studio with producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Sigur Ros), while singer/guitarist Shane Parsons and drummer Simon Ridley were in the UK to headline NME’s party at the Great Escape festival.

DZ Deathrays’s sophomore record Black Rat is due for release May 2nd and features cover art by Melbourne illustrator Celeste Potter. The two singles from the album suggest a new direction from the thrashing duo, who recently told FasterLouder that on their new record they aimed to “prove to people that we just don’t just do ‘loud’” adding that the Black Rat sound will be “a mashup of melodic and heavy.”

After touring as part of this year’s Big Day Out, DZ have just been announced on the bill for the 2014 Secret Garden Festival, alongside the likes of The Rubens, World’s End Press and SURES. DZ Deathrays will then be heading to SXSW and later the UK where they will be supporting Blood Red Shoes in front of packed out rooms. Black Rat is out on May 2nd with a pre-order available at the DZ Deathrays official website.
