Emilee South has detailed their debut studio album Luxury, which is set for independent release on Friday June 28th. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter made the album with producer Anna Laverty, best known for her work on albums by Camp Cope and Stella Donnelly. To coincide with the album’s announcement, South has shared a new single entitled ‘Control’.
‘Control’ is the third single to be lifted from Luxury, following the release of ‘Weekend’ in September 2023 and ‘Rat Race’ the following November. In a brief press statement, South described the new single as being about “trying to let go and find freedom from self-imposed pressures – but the grip is tight until the end.” A music video for the track is set to be released in the coming week.
Emilee South – ‘Control’
South originally debuted in 2014 with their EP Aloha, Au Revoir. The six-track EP featured the track ‘You’re A Fool’, which was a duet with Marlon Williams. A second EP, Motel, followed in 2017. Since the release of Motel, South’s output grew infrequent: A stand-alone single, ‘Heartbreaker’, was released in 2018, with ‘Shotgun’ following suit a year later.
Last week saw South and her band begin a residency at The Gem Bar in Collingwood, where they will perform every Friday night. Dates and line-ups for each of the remaining shows can be found below.
