Eminem Teases New November Release ‘Shady XV’

Detroit rapper Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, appears to be teasing a new release by the name of Shady XV for release this November, with a t-shirt, a movie trailer and a number of tweets from Eminem and his manager building the hype before a rumoured official announcement.

Mathers finished off his Monster tour with pop star Rihanna in Detroit on Saturday night, and left many attendees questioning the “Shady XV” t-shirt he performed in. He later posted a picture to his official Twitter account (below) showing him in the shirt. “Incredible end to The Monster Tour with Rihanna in Detroit. Thank you all,” Mathers said, before adding the hashtag “#SHADYXV”.

According to Billboard, a new TV trailer for Denzel Washington’s upcoming film The Equalizer, which features Eminem’s new Sia-featuring track Guts Over Fear, reveals that Shady XV is set for release on Black Friday, the Friday after American Thanksgiving which will fall on the 28th November this year. In the trailer, which was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday but has since been removed, the end credits read, “Featuring the new song Guts Over Fear from Shady XV on Black Friday.”

Billboard have also claimed that the video’s YouTube page teased a special event which is set to happen at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, which are currently taking place in California. “Tune in to the VMAs for a preview of the new song from Eminem featuring SIA, Guts Over Fear in this new spot for Denzel Washington’s new movie, The Equalizer,” the video description reportedly read. Eminem later teased this rumoured VMA event, posting on Twitter, “Blink and you’ll miss it… #VMAs #SHADYXV.”

Rap Up have reported that the new television trailer for The Equalizer, featuring Eminem’s Shady XV announcement, will air during the VMAs. The site have also noted that a Shady XV teaser image which was recently posted to Eminem’s official website has now been removed.

Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg posted a tweet back in early June which read, “Shady XV,” and didn’t provide any further context. Current speculation suggests that Shady XV may be a new album. Or, as Complex have pointed out, Shady XV may be a tribute to Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP, which was released 15 years ago. No matter what it may be, it looks like something new is on the way.

UPDATE 6:10pm 25/08/14: Eminem’s collaboration with Sia, Guts Over Fear, is now available via iTunes. Sharing the news via his social media channels, the rapper advised fans to “stay tuned for more info tomorrow.” It’s not clear if the info will be related to the new track or to Shady XV.

Shortly after Em’s “blink and you’ll miss it” tweet, the rapper posted a video to his Twitter page that featured a rapid-fire montage of images from his career and that of other artists on his label, Shady Records. The clip was set to the sound of Patiently Waiting from 50 Cent‘s 2003 debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, on which Eminem guested and which was released via his record label.
