Falls Festival Lorne Could Be Cancelled Due To Bushfire Threat

The Victorian leg of Falls Festival is in “serious danger” of being cancelled, with a monster bushfire tearing across the state’s surf coast and making its way towards Lorne.

Festival organisers will meet with emergency services today to determine if the sellout event – which is scheduled to kick off on Monday, 28th December – will still go ahead.

The festival site is nestled in the heart of dense bushland at Falls Farm, less than 15 kilometres from the suburb of Lorne – which was issued an emergency evacuation order this morning.

Thousands of residents and holidaymakers have been forced to get the hell out of dodge, after the blaze wiped out 53 homes in the region.

“You are in danger, act now to protect yourself. It is too late to leave,” the Country Fire Authority’s warning read.

There are more than 300 firefighters currently on the scene and a cool change overnight has helped with their efforts.

However, an update on the Falls official Facebook page late last night warned ticketholders that there was a genuine possibility that the event might be scrapped, if the threat was not sufficiently contained.

“We have a meeting scheduled with emergency services at 12 noon tomorrow,” their statement reads. “We will make a final decision on how the festival will progress from there. We will update you all with further information as soon as it comes to hand.”
