FBi Radio Announces 2016 SMAC Award Nominees

UPDATE 18/01/17: The 2016 FBi SMAC Award winners have been announced.

ORIGINAL STORY: FBi Radio has revealed the nominees for its 2016 Sydney Music, Arts & Culture Awards (or SMACs).

Over 10 massive categories, the awards celebrate the best new talent across music, art, events and food, while a special SMAC Of The Year Award will be presented to someone who has made a significant contribution to Sydney’s cultural life.

In the prized category of Record Of The Year, Julia Jacklin has secured a nom for her breakthrough 2016 album Don’t Let The Kids Win, while L-Fresh The Lion has been nominated for Become.

Other artists up for the award are Collarbones’ Marcus Whale for his debut solo album Inland Sea, Rainbow Chan for Spacings, Ribongia for Escapisms and Shining Bird for Black Opal.

L-Fresh The Lion is also up for Best Song, alongside Middle Kids, Buoy, Rapaport and Shining Bird.

The Next Big Thing category is typically filled with artists with huge potential, and this year is no different, with Buoy, Julia Jacklin, Middle Kids, Moonbase Commander and Wallace all securing nominations.

The 2016 FBi SMAC Awards will be presented at Carriageworks in Sydney on Tuesday, 17th January, with Julia Jacklin, L-Fresh The Lion and Middle Kids set to perform.

SMAC Award voting is now open to the public, and you’ll be able to get your votes in until 5pm on Tuesday, 20th December, and you’ll also go in the draw to win a double pass to the awards ceremony.
