Field Day Adds Triple J Unearthed Winner To 2016 Lineup

The 2016 Field Day lineup has expanded ever so slightly, with the addition of Sydney-based Jess Kent, whose mixture of grime, reggae and hip hop on debut single Get Down has won a triple j Unearthed competition.

Born in England to a blues rock guitarist father, Kent moved to Australia with her family at the age of 11, and has since been inspired by acts like Mat McHugh & The Beautiful Girls, Bob Marley, The Supremes and The Beastie Boys.

The singer-songwriter’s first track, Get Down (below), is “a song about growing up as a teenager in suburban Adelaide”, a place she left two years ago to focus on her music full-time.

Speaking with triple j, Kent says, “I love Adelaide and was playing a lot of gigs but Sydney was providing quite a lot of opportunities.” She’s now deep in the “exciting but scary process” of putting together a band for her first live performances.

Field Day is returning to The Domain in Sydney on New Year’s Day, packing the likes of Disclosure, The Wombats, Pusha T, Skepta and San Cisco. Catch the full updated lineup, below.
