Former Pantera Frontman Phil Anselmo Makes Nazi-Style Salute, Yells ‘White Power!’ At Charity Concert

UPDATE 31/01/16: Phil Anselmo has issued a video apology over his “white power” comment, following backlash from other metal musicians.

ORIGINAL STORY: Former frontman of iconic metal band Pantera, Phil Anselmo, has been recorded throwing a Nazi-style salute and shouting “White power!” at an LA charity concert.

The clip was posted on YouTube after the show on 22 January with the title, ‘Phil Anselmo is a Racist! Ruins Dimebash 2016’. It attracted defensive remarks from Anselmo on YouTube, who according to Loudwire said: “Ok folks, I’ll own this one, but dammit, I was joking, and the “inside joke of the night” was because we were drinking f—ing white wine, hahaha…

Of all f—ing things.

“Some of y’all need to thicken up your skin… No apologies from me.” Sure, that clears it all up, ffs.

Anselmo himself has been known to make provocative remarks on stage and has faced accusations of racism.

Anselmo had been performing Pantera covers with big names including Dave Grohl and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo as part of Dimebash, the annual charity show held in memory of Pantera guitarist Darrell ‘Dimebag’ Abbott.
