Former Vivian Girls drummer Ali Koehler has left Best Coast, reports Brooklyn Vegan, Koehler tweeting that she is no longer apart of the band, offerring “not my choice, sorry if you’re disappointed”, “I’m sorry, I’m equally disappointed”, and “your guess is as good as mine” as explanations via twitter.

Playing her first show with the band in July 2010, this news comes as a bit of a shock, Koehler having been replaced by a male drummer for a show in San Francisco earlier this week. In the meantime Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno already in the midst of recording their second album, having started sessions at L.A’s Capitol Records back in October, with Jon Brion coming on as producer.

Koehler has also said that “whether it’s in a basement or at an amphitheater, you will always see me playing music in some capacity. Hopefully sooner than later,” also adding “I’ve practiced with a new band a couple times, but I’m not planning on going full time anytime soon,” also posting a link to her own Bandcamp page featuring some of here indie pop solo tracks.

Best Coast are due to play on the Big Day Out 2012 line up, likely without Koehler.
