Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark & More Among 2018 APRA Music Awards Nominees

UPDATE: A.B. Original, Peking Duk & M-Phazes Dominate The 2018 APRA Music Awards

ORIGINAL STORIES: The likes of Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark, Paul Kelly and super producer M-Phazes have been named on this year’s list of APRA Music Awards nominees.

M-Phazes leads the way with four nominations for 2018, given his songwriting collaborations with Amy Shark and rapper Illy.

Elsewhere, the all-important Song Of The Year nominees include Amy Shark (‘Weekends’), Paul Kelly and Billy Miller (‘Firewood and Candles’), Gangs Of Youths’ Dave Le’aupepe (‘What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?’) and Ainslie Wills and Lawrence Folvig (‘Running Second’).

The likes of Alex Lahey, Vera Blue and Gretta Ray are up for Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year, while Peking Duk, Amy Shark and Styalz have all picked up three nominations from their songwriting work.

“There’s two moments that you think ‘I could be a songwriter’,” says Amy Shark.

“There’s the moment when you’re like I enjoy songwriting and I’m gonna do it. But then the moment I thought I could be a songwriter wasn’t until I’d completely signed to a record label, management, everything else. I wasn’t sold until everything was sort of happening because you have your doubts.”

The 2017 APRA Music Awards were dominated by Flume, who took home three awards from four nominations, including Songwriter Of The Year.

The 2018 APRA Music Awards will be hosted by Julia Zemiro, and will take place at Sydney’s International Convention Centre Grand Ballroom on Tuesday, 10th April.
