Green Day Announce New Single ‘Oh Love’ For This July

Green Day will be releasing a new single Oh Love on July 16, the first taken from their upcoming album trilogy ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, due for release later on this year. The new albums will be the follow-up to their highly successful 2009 release 21st Century Breakdown. Long-time producer Rob Cavallo has been helping with the recording in their hometown of Oakland, CA.

Up until now we’ve only heard little snippets of songs from in-the-studio teasers and album trailer videos, but the band have given us some clues on what me might expect, talking in a recent interview about moving their sound away from the punk sound they’re best known for, describing their new sound as “punchier, more power pop – somewhere between AC/DC and the early Beatles”.

We’ve already seen two of the album covers revealed via two album teaser videos: the first with frontman Billy Joe Armstrong’s head with his eyes crossed out and a green background, and the second in a similar style but with bass player Mike Dirnt and a yellow background. It’s predictable to think that drummer Tre Cool will be on the third disc of the trilogy.

The three albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! will come out on different dates, starting with ¡Uno! on September 25, 2012 and the next two on November 13, 2012 and January 15, 2013.
