Green Day are said to have a bunch of new tracks ready to roll for a new album. Singer and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong took to Twitter to reveal that the band have a ‘tonne of new songs’ and that new work will sound ‘fresh and high energy’.
Armstrong wrote, “Ok here’s the scoop. [Green Day] has been jamming new songs everyday. There’s a ton of new songs. The direction is fresh and high energy. Feels great.”
He said that the three-piece are ‘having the best time’ recording songs for the new record, which will be their ninth in total. No release date or title has yet been assigned to the new album.
Armstrong continued, “I don’t want to give away too much but just know that me, Mike, Tre and Jason are collaborating and having the best time playing music.
“And that’s not bulls**t!! (sic)”
Armstrong has been pretty busy lately, what with being involved with the American Idiot musical, which closed recently on Broadway after a successful run. As previously reported, Armstrong has also watched his 16-year-old son Joey record his first album with his band Emily’s Army.
In addition, Green Day released their live album Awesome As Fuck in March.
