Have Jane’s Addiction Broken Up?

Rumours are swirling that Jane’s Addiction are no more, following an on-stage punch-up last week and now on ominous Instagram post from guitarist, Dave Navarro.

ICYMI, last Friday (September 13th), singer Perry Farrell shoved and punched Navarro live onstage during a show in Boston. The altercation also involved bassist Eric Avery, who landed a few punches on Farrell while trying to separate his frontman and guitarist.

“I am gutted that things ended this way”

The incident triggered Jane’s Addiction to cancel the remainder of their tour and issue a public statement.

“Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour,” a collective statement from Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins read.

Following the cancellation, Jane’s Addiction released a new single dubbed ‘True Love’, which looks like it could sadly be the band’s last.

“New Jane’s Addiction track released today, ‘True Love.’ I am proud of the work we did on this song but I am equally saddened by the fact that you will likely never hear it live,” Navarro wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.

“I’d also like to publicly apologize to our crew, @crawlersband and their crew and to @loveandrocketsofficial and their crew,” he continued, referring to Jane’s Addiction’s support band on the ill-fated tour, Love Rockets.

“Thanks for being our travel companions for as long as you did. I am gutted that things ended this way and that so many jobs were lost as a result. May all of our hearts mend together.”

The suggestion that fans might never hear the new song live has triggered speculation that Jane’s Addiction have broken up, although no official word has come from the band, and Navarro has since deleted his post.

The band has had a tumultuous career, having previously broken up at the height of their fame in 1991, and multiple times since. They reunited in 1997 but disbanded again in 2004 after releasing a new album, Strays. They reformed once more in 2008 and have since continued to perform intermittently despite personal and professional challenges.

They last toured Australia in 2023 with The Smashing Pumpkins as part of their The World Is A Vampire tour.

Just last month, Navarro hinted that a new Jane’s Addiction album was in the works.

Let’s hope we still get to hear it after the band does some much-needed healing.
