Perth’s all-ages summer slam Hyperfest has had to rejig its lineup after hardcore locals Cursed Earth pulled the plug on their performance.
The band have yet to comment on their exit from the festival but HyperFest organisers have issued a statement announcing simply that the group has “withdrawn” from the event.
“Cursed Earth have withdrawn from the line-up, but we’re super excited to announce that Jess Locke will be heading over to HyperFest 2018 to replace them!” they write.
For fans of the heavier genres at HyperFest there’s still In Hearts Wake, Columbus, Introvert and Glass Wave to enjoy, as well as the grunge-punk stylings of WAAX, Tired Lion, Dear Seattle, Camp Cope and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.
There’s also the jazz-powered hip-hop stylings of POW Negro, triple j‘s 2017 Unearthed High-winning rapper Arno Faraji, indie-pop songstress Maddi Jane, Adelaide trio Heaps Good Friends and loads more to satisfy all manner of musical cravings.
The festival’s lineup reshuffle comes after Cursed Earth performed at UNIFY Gathering 2018 with a replacement vocalist — Mark Poida of Brisbane deathcore outfit Aversions Crown — filling in for frontwoman Jazmine Luders.
Rumours have been circulating that Luders has actually exited the band in the wake of online allegations claiming she abused an ex-girlfriend in 2017, but there has been no official statement made from either their band or their label at this time.
Cursed Earth are still scheduled to play the debut instalment of Download Festival Australia in Melbourne this March, and Music Feeds has contacted Download to confirm whether their performance will indeed be going ahead.
Meanwhile Hyperfest is scheduled to go down at Midland Oval on Saturday, 24th February 2018, with “three talent-packed main stages and loads of entertainment”.
