1980s rock outfit Icehouse have just announced their impending Primitive Colours Australian tour, a 13-stop national voyage that kicks off October 10 at Waves in Wollongong. The tour’s title derives from Icehouse’s two most acclaimed records to date: 1982’s Primitive Man and 1987’s Man of Colours, the former of which produced the iconic single Great Southern Land.
The Primitive Colours Australian tour will primarily focus on songs from these two records, being that 2012 is the 30th anniversary of Primitive Man, Icehouse sophomore LP, and the 25th anniversary of the band’s fifth album Man of Colours. The shows won’t be strictly limited to these two albums, however, with Icehouse promising to play the various hits they have amassed since releasing their debut record in 1980.
Icehouse released the following statement about the upcoming national tour:
Getting the band back out touring last year turned out to be a lot of fun and excitement for us all. We’ve had varied requests to perform again and decided that in this double Anniversary year for two of the most known ICEHOUSE albums, the best way would be to perform a few more songs from both albums. Having done the festivals, wineries and entertainment centres since last October, we also wanted to have the chance to get closer to the audiences so we’re playing a variety of venues, ranging from Hamer Hall in Melbourne to a couple of nights in Dee Why (just around the corner from where the band played its early gigs as Flowers) and big pub venues in Brisbane – it’s just like the days when we toured ‘Primitive Man’!
