Illy Cuts Show Short After Being Bottled

Melburnian rapper Illy was forced to stop his concert in Traralgon, Victoria on the night of Saturday, 13th September after being bottled whilst performing.

In a Facebook post, Illy (real name Al Murray) claims he had only performed five songs at the Kay Street Entertainment Complex before a glass was thrown at him from the crowd, hitting him just under his eye. Now he’s calling out all bottlers, saying, “There has to be a zero tolerance for that shit.”

In the post (below), Illy highlighted the flow-on effects of violence from audiences. “If me or my crew get hurt and have to cancel shows, there’s a group of people I’m responsible for who are directly effected,” Illy said. “It’s bigger than just me. We’re on stage to smash, but not at the expense of personal safety. If that hit me square in the eye and broke, who knows? It wasn’t far off.”

Illy later told fans on Twitter that he sustained “a small cut”, adding that it was “nothing to worry about”.

Clearly annoyed at the offending audience member, Illy’s Facebook post apologised for the short set. “I apologize to you guys, and everyone who missed out because of one fuckwit. It takes a lot for me to not put you guys first, but this was one of those times. In fact, it’s the first time in my music career.”

Illy told fans that he remains grateful for their support. “I’m lucky enough that I get to do what I love for a living. I never lose sight of that,” he said. “I’m thankful as fuck to the people who support me. I do as much as I can to pay that support back.”

He also told fans that he is already attempting to reschedule the Traralgon show, which all ticket-holders will be able to attend at no extra cost. “From my side of it, I’m pushing for that. I know if it happens it’s a bit of a mission for some, but it’s the best I can do,” Illy said. Read his full Facebook statement, below.

Illy will next embark on a national capital cities tour this November, making stops in Darwin, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide.
