Ahead of their slot at Splendour In The Grass 2016, Sydney psych-pop trio Jagwar Ma have returned with the new single O B 1, the first taste of their second album, Every Now & Then, which is set for release in October. What’s more, the band have announced two new shows, even though they’re meant to be “secret”.
O B 1 (below) features some dub-infused pop psyechedlia, along with some serious Primal Scream vibes. It also features Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa on beats, with production from the band’s Jono Ma and the legendary James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons).
Ma also put together the O B 1 music video, which captures what the band have been up to since the release of their debut album Howlin’ in 2013.
As for the song’s title, it’s probably a reference to the OB-1 analog synthesizer, but we’d also like to think it’s a nod to the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, because why not?
In support of Obi-Wan O B 1, Jagwar Ma have announced two “secret” club shows as a warm up for their set at Splendour In The Grass. The shows will have limited tickets, and the locations for each gig — one in Sydney and one in Melbourne — will be revealed the day before each show.
Aside from working on Every Now & Then over the past few years, Jagwar Ma have also been spotted in the studio with fellow Aussie Flight Facilities and The Preatures.
