James Hetfield “Literally Helped Save My Life” Says Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe

In the wake of Metallica cancelling their forthcoming tour of Australia, plenty within the industry have wished frontman James Hetfield a quick recovery, after he revealed he was entering rehab.

Lamb Of God‘s frontman Randy Blyth has now shared a story about how Hetfield helped him get sober some years back, whilst the two bands were touring together, in Australia of all places!

Blythe said that nine years ago, Hetfield sought him out to encourage him to stop “raging”.

“He knew I had been trying to quit drinking, it wasn’t working for me anymore, & it all came to an end in Australia,” said Blythe, via Metal Injection.

“A HUGE FACTOR in my willingness & ability to get sober while on fucking heavy metal tour was the fact that I had James & some of his crew who were also sober to talk to- I didn’t have to do it alone.

He revealed that James and the Metallica crew helped walk him through the first few months of sobriety.

“I couldn’t have done it without them,” he added.

“When I saw the news about James, I hurt so bad inside for him, because he was there for me when I was in such bad shape.

“I know how dark it can get.

“So my thoughts & prayers are with him – I love that dude. He literally helped SAVE MY LIFE.”

Slipknot, who were due to tour Australia with Metallica, recently released a statement saying that they are ““working as quickly as possible to determine next steps” and “hope to see you all very soon”.
