The Jezabels Are Playing 7 Sydney Shows In 7 Days

In what surely has to be a record-breaking move, The Jezabels have announced a weeklong residency at Sydney’s very own live music Lazarus The Lansdowne Hotel.

The hometown heroes will be playing seven gigs in seven nights at the resurrected Chippendale haunt this August with different local support acts every night to shake things up, including the likes of Didirri, Sunscreen, Soma Sutton, Angie McMahon, Planet, Borneo and Big Time.

Jezabels frontwoman Hayley Mary, who ICYMI helped relaunch the Lanny with a supergroup packed with members of The Delta Riggs, Royal Headache, DMA’s, The Preatures and Sticky Fingers, says the band had more than just one reason for wanting to take on the seven-header.

“We wanted to play a bunch of small, intimate shows to our Sydney fans where we could change up the set and play some songs we wouldn’t normally have time for and the reopened Lansdowne represents such an awesome new era for Sydney that it seemed right it should be there,” she explains.

“But mainly, we felt a sadistic kind of pleasure in making the staff listen to us over and over to the point of sheer disdain.”

But to their credit, the staff actually seem pretty down with it. Owner Jake Smyth says: “We are thrilled that the Jezabels have chosen to celebrate this series of homecoming shows with us – it highlights their consistent support of live music and our fucking amazing city. Let’s have it!”

While booker Matt Rule adds: “When such a seminal band approaches you to do seven shows at the venue, you jump at the chance. Its an honour for us and the venue I feel, and goes to show how much bands/musicians/promoters/people appreciate the reopening of an iconic venue like the Lansdowne. These shows are going to be very special – it’s pretty rare these days to go and see The Jezeables so intimately”.

Pumped.
