The results are in from last night’s gathering of our musical finest in the good name of The Age Music Victoria Awards. The broad range of categories saw a plethora of talent nominated for their achievements, but one band has reigned supreme, and that’s King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
The overlords of psych-rock absolutely cleaned up at this year’s awards, taking home Best Album for their latest effort Nonagon Infinity, as well as Best Band and Best Live Band.
Best Song and Best Regional Act went to The Drones for their jam Taman Shud, with the habitutally amazing Alex Lahey taking out Best Female Artist, and the boot scootin’ C.W Stoneking Best Male Artist.
Camp Cope were awarded Best Emerging Act, which was no easy feat considering how tense the competition was — Cable Ties, Alex Lahey and more were nominated.
The Corner Hotel rightfully recieved Best Venue in the Over 500 capacity section, with The Tote chosen in the Under 500 section, and the beloved Meredith Music Festival nabbed Best Festival. Hugely important community radio station RRR, currently celebrating 40 years on air, was inducted into the Hall Of Fame.
The awards aren’t just a dog and pony show, either. All nominees recieve a rehearsal and pre-production package from the awards’ studio partner, Bakehouse Studios, ensuring a quality crop for next year.
