Lisa Mitchell has folked up one of the greatest pop songs to come out of the 90’s, wrapping her willowy pipes around the Spice Girls classic ‘Stop’.
The celebrated indie crooner has taken the iconic girl group’s advice and slowed it down baby, giving their Spice World hit a charming acoustic makeover (sadly not accompanied by the dance routine, but we can dream).
Posting audio of the rendition to Facebook, Mitchell announced that she’s releasing a full 90’s covers EP.
“Ok, ok. So, you know how I recorded a version of, ‘The OC,’ theme-song, ‘California,’ by Phantom Planet?” She asked. “Well, I decided to record a few more songs from around that time – It’s called ‘When They Play That Song’ – an EP of moments from 90s films.”
A squiz at the official EP pre-order page reveals that she’s also had a crack at Placebo’s ‘Every You Every Me’, Jamiroquai’s ‘Lovefool’ and Letters To Cleo’s ‘Cruel To Be Kind’ (the original version of which was tracked in 1979 by Nick Lowe).
It comes after the singer-songwriter teamed up with Dustin Tebbutt for a cover of RÜFÜS’ 10-minute epic ‘Innerbloom’.
