Listen: Damon Albarn Celebrates BBC Radio’s 90th Birthday

Damon Albarn is a man of music. Not only is he the frontman of one of the greatest Britpop bands of all time, Blur, but he also fronted one of the greatest musical collectives the previous decade held, Gorillaz. In addition to that, Albarn has scored his own musical, Monkey: Journey to the West and his creative production, Dr Dee: An English Opera.

However, in between rehearsals for Blur and his other creative outlets, the BBC have enlisted the musical mind of the British identity to compose an obscure and alternative track to celebrate the 90th birthday of the famous radio station. Titled Radio Reunited, the piece comprises several recordings of listeners who have contributed to the station over the years.

In celebration, the piece was broadcast across all BBC radio stations earlier today in the UK. The various soundclips are all explored here. It is a surprisingly catchy composition, especially the closing piano sequence. Happy Birthday BBC Radio, I hope you have many more years on the airwaves
