Genesis Owusu has been a busy man. He’s just released his debut album Smiling With No Teeth, and today he’s already returned with new single ‘Same Thing’.
‘Same Thing’ arrives just three months after Smiling With No Teeth, and – according to Owusu (real name Kofi Owusu-Ansah) – was written during the sessions for the album.
“When the band and I were creating Smiling With No Teeth, we essentially made 60 hours of music for the album in 6 days,” Owusu said in a press statement.
“The songs chosen for the album conveyed a very specific narrative, but we also made a lot of great music that didn’t necessarily fit the album’s narrative points. ‘Same Thing’ was one of the tracks born from the seemingly limitless SWNT sessions.
“The track is still in the realm of the album’s themes of mental health (more specifically, the crazy shit the mind makes up), so the video follows suit with a psychedelic barrage of both colourful and claustrophobic imagery.”
The video is indeed both psychedelic and claustrophobic, with Owusu performing in a variety of different outfits flashing in quick succession – including his now iconic red suit.
Genesis Owusu is currently in the midst of a nationwide tour, and he’s also set to perform in Sydney as part of VIVID Live 2021.
