Madonna Had A Massive Stack Onstage At The BRIT Awards, But She’s OK Now

Madonna almost went the way of her American accent overnight, suffering a major wipeout onstage while performing at the 2015 BRIT Awards.

The reigning Queen of Pop was in the middle of her show-closing rendition of new single Living For Love at the 35th annual event, when disaster struck following a wardrobe malfunction.

Madge took a tumble after the matador-style cloak she was wearing for the performance failed to detach correctly when yanked on by one of her well-muscled backup dancers, causing her to plummet backwards down a small flight of stairs and singlehandedly prove, once and for all, a point hotly contested by comic book geeks throughout the ages: that capes are stupid.

The 56-year-old pop diva seemed rattled by the stack and lost a bit of her mojo but, like a trooper, she finished the number as planned.

Thankfully, Madonna came out unscathed, taking to social media to inform fans that she’d survived the ordeal.

“Armani hooked me up! My beautiful cape was tied too tight!” she posted on Instagram, along with a sketch of the getup. “But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up! Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine! ❤️#livingforlove”.

The irony of the song’s lyrics has not been lost on Madge’s fans – “Took me to heaven and let me fall down/ Now that it’s over/ I’m gonna carry on/ Lifted me up, and watched me stumble/ After the heartache, I’m gonna carry on” – and the internet has naturally responded to the incident with an outpouring of old lady-themed jokes and memes (below). Cruel, internet.
